Identifying Storage Issues

Tips for Cleaning a Climate-Controlled Self-Storage Unit

More often, climate-controlled self-storage units are used to store fragile items that are weather sensitive. Since these items are often stored for longer periods of time, you may need to clean the storage unit occasionally so that everything inside of it can remain in perfect condition. Cleaning your climate-controlled self-storage unit also helps to drive away unwanted pests that might have found a home in the unit.

However, while it's easy to clean a climate-controlled self-storage unit, not everyone understands how to do it effectively. Here are three effective tips for cleaning a self-storage unit you should follow.

Declutter Your Climate Controlled Storage Unit

The first effective way of cleaning your storage unit is decluttering it. After storing items in your unit for a long time, you may find things you want to eliminate by selling, donating, or throwing them away. When decluttering, you can sort these items under the categories you want them to fit into.

Mostly, electronics are easily recyclable, and you can do that by sending them to the nearest recycle center or electric store. If you have items you forgot you had, are outdated, or simply don't need, you can donate or sell them. You can clean the rest of the items you want to keep as you take their inventory and repack them into their respective boxes.

Create a Better Layout

With the inventory list outlined above, you can now rearrange the remaining items into your climate-controlled self-storage unit in a new, more functional layout. To help the process go smoothly, make sure you have divided your items into categories to store them up under their respective categories. You can use shelves on the wall or pallets on the floor to create more storage room, depending on the items you have and the number of categories you have subdivided them into.

If you have clothes going into the unit, use a clothing rack to hang them for effective protection. You can then fit them inside breathable clothing bags and later hang the bags into the space you've designated for clothes. Finish by labeling all boxes and containers to make it easier to search for items in the unit later.

Leave Behind Some Cleaning Supplies in the Storage Unit

It can get to be exhausting to carry additional cleaning supplies from home anytime you want to clean the storage unit. This can make it highly challenging to maintain a regular cleaning schedule, even when you notice some dirt that needs to be cleaned out.

If you leave behind some cleaning supplies, it becomes easier to maintain a regular cleaning schedule. You can use the supplies to clean the floor, surfaces, and the exposed walls to manage and keep dirt away. This way, dirt will always have no room to accumulate on your items.

Keep these tips in mind when looking at self-storage facilities near you.
